Is your bicycle gathering dust? The Bionx electric bike kit can change that. It installs easily and seamlessly on nearly any bicycle, allowing you to ride quickly and tackle even the steepest San Francisco hills. The New Wheel will even install the system on your bicycle for free.
Highlights:
At The New Wheel, we don't sell many products. Why? Because, for one, our standards are high. Our goal is to find bikes that work flawlessly in San Francisco’s unforgivingly hilly terrain. But we also like to take the complexity out of finding a sturdy, reliable, proven, and practical product. It certainly makes it easier to hone our offerings when we are determined to only sell products of the highest quality.
With this in mind, it becomes clear why Bionx was a no-brainer: there aren't many companies producing motor kits that have a proven track record like Bionx, nor are there many companies that are trusted by name brand bike producers like OHM Cycles, Trek, Kalkhoff, Grace, and Riese & Müller.
Having experienced Bionx first-hand on the incredible electric bikes by OHM Cycles, I knew that I could attest to the quality, practicality, and power of the Bionx systems.

Coming soon...
Before we install Bionx on your bike, we will perform a complete safety check. If a tune-up or extra work is required, we will bring it to your attention in a complete estimate and charge on a time and material basis.
Each install follows our comprehensive new bike setup checklist, and is signed off by the mechanic responsible for your bike.
Your Bionx kit comes standard with 6 months of complimentary service. To guarantee that your bicycle works great over its lifetime, we recommend purchasing a service membership to guarantee that it is serviced regularly. Ask us about our yearly membership packages to learn which one makes sense for your type of riding.
We also offer a 24/7 nationwide roadside assistance program for $40/year that will transport you and your bicycle up to 30 miles to a location of your choosing two times a year (be it our shop or another bike shop or your home).
Your new electric bike can be serviced by any qualified bicycle technician. The electric components of your bike are best serviced by The New Wheel or another Bionx authorized dealer, as we have the equipment required to diagnose and fix most issues with your system.
Q: For whom was Bionx designed?
A: Bionx was designed for people who wish to increase their riding experience, and:
• find it difficult to ride uphill or against the wind
• want a good workout (4 regenerative settings)
• want to ride faster and longer
• want to avoid traffic when traveling to work
• want to ride with a group and maintain their speed (without struggling at the back of the pack
Q: Will an assisted bicycle keep me in better shape than a conventional bicycle?
A: Yes. According to an Australian study conducted by the Institute of Transport Studies, the assistance provided by such a bicycle helps to maintain the rider’s heart rate in the aerobic zone.
Because you can be assisted when going uphill, you do not need to spend excessive energy, you feel less tired, and can therefore keep going in your aerobic zone. With a conventional bicycle, many people exceed their aerobic zone when riding uphill then feels completely drained.
Q: How many miles can one travel on a charge?
A: It all depends on terrain and how much stop and go traffic to be contended with. In our experience, the Bionx can take a rider of around 160 pounds up to 36 miles over hilly San Francisco terrain. In our testing, the 36 mile range was achieved over a route that climbed 2,800 feet traveling at an average speed of 11.4 MPH.
Q: How does charging work?
A: Simply plug the charger supplied with your Bionx into a wall socket, and then into your battery. The indicator light on your charger will glow orange while charging, and green when complete.
Q: How long does it take to charge the battery?
A: A full charge from empty is achieve in just 2.5 hours.
Q: What is the typical lifespan of a battery?
A: The battery can last for a very long time, but its ability to hold a charge will be reduced to about 80% after 800 charge/recharge cycles. One charge/recharge cycle is a full cycle, meaning that if you only deplete half of the energy in the battery, and recharge it from there, that counts as only half a cycle.
If we conservatively figure that one charge cycle equals about 30 miles, you will probably not notice a reduced charge until about 15,000 miles. That’s a lot of biking!
Q: Can my electric bike be serviced by a bicycle mechanic?
A: Yes, definitely. Your bicycle remains a bicycle. The electric system itself is best serviced by The New Wheel or another authorized Bionx dealer.
Q: Can I ride in the rain?
A: Yes, you can use Bionx in the rain without any worries. All system elements are sealed and water resistant.
Q: What is the warranty?
A: From 2012 on the complete Bionx system, battery and hardware, are covered by a 2-year warranty.
