SMALL GROUP Workshops & ONE-On-ONE COACHING
Increase your confidence riding in the city with group workshops or individualized instruction.
Our cycling workshops are fun, social events that happen once a month and are open and applicable to bike riders of all levels. We explore San Francisco and Marin on a group ride while covering cycling best practices and specific skills you can use every day.
The New Wheel's experienced League of American Bicyclist instructors lead the way and ensure each workshop is not only fun but also informative. Registration is $49 or $39 for Service Members.
Our one-on-one coaching options are a great way to get individualized attention so that you can get the most from your bike. Have specific skills you'd like to practice, or a particular cycling problem that needs solving? Let one of our League of American Bicyclists trained instructors help you!
Discounted e-bike rentals for bike coaching are available - click link above for more info.
Our instructors are licensed by the League of American Bicyclists.
Frances worked 3 years for the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, as Outreach Coordinator, and then for 7 years as Lead Instructor for the Safe Routes to Schools program. In 2006 she became a US certified Cycling Instructor for the League of American Bicyclists; she developed family biking workshops, after school bike clubs for 3-5 graders, and clinics specifically for women and retirees. When not teaching cycling, Frances enjoys long distance swimming, performing with Singers Marin, cooking, speaking French and Spanish, and racing sailboats.
John is a cycling coach and educator focusing on new bicyclists, returning riders, and anyone expanding their cycling horizons from recreation into transportation. He has enjoyed living and bicycling in the Bay Area for over 35 years, the last 5 in Bernal Heights. Since 1997 John has been a nationally certified League Cycling Instructor (“LCI”), leading and team-teaching Traffic Skills courses and family cycling workshops for hundreds of riders. John has also helped over 1,000 persons, ages 4 to 74, discover balancing, pedaling, turning and shifting in private Learn To Ride lessons and group classes.
John Cicarelli is a master instructor on bike safety. Not only does he knows the laws thoroughly, but he applies them to situations as you ride. Best of all, he asks in advance which types of situations you find most challenging, and guides you through them with live modeling and explanations. I learned to be more confident to “take the lane”, how to signal and pass when a vehicle blocks a lane, and how to “create a box” to safely make a left turn, among others. As an experienced rider, I now feel safer and more confident than ever!
