The First Urban Arrow Longtail

The First Urban Arrow Longtail

Meet the Breeze – a cargo bike that rides like a regular bike.

The New Tern HSD Generation 3 Reading The First Urban Arrow Longtail 5 minutes

Urban Arrow built its reputation on the front-loader. Since 2010, that long, low box up front has become the default image of a serious family cargo bike — and for a certain kind of household, nothing else comes close. We've sold a lot of them, and we love them.

But the front-loader isn't for everyone. It's long. It needs a real parking spot. And for a lot of people, the goal is a family bike that is just the right size, handling and riding like a regular bike.

The Breeze is Urban Arrow's answer to those riders, and it's their first longtail. Instead of putting the cargo in front, it goes behind you, on a long, sturdy rear rack. You sit upright, you steer a normal front wheel, and it feels like a great bicycle, with super powers. All the passenger-carrying seriousness Urban Arrow is known for, in a easy package.

Watch: Breeze vs. GSD

We put the Breeze up against the Tern GSD — the bike it's most directly competing with, and one of our best sellers — and rode them both on our hills. If you're deciding between the two, this is the fastest way to understand the difference.

Built for Our Hills

The Breeze runs Bosch's Cargo Line motor on the Smart System, offering 85 Nm of torque. That's the motor Bosch built specifically for hauling weight uphill, and it's the right choice for a bike that might be carrying two kids and a week of groceries.

Power comes from a Bosch PowerPack 545 Wh battery, with an 800 Wh version available separately if your rides are longer. The Purion 200 display keeps things simple — speed, assist level, battery, and not much else to fuss with.

Stepless Shifting, Nothing to Lube

The Breeze pairs an Enviolo Heavy Duty continuously variable hub with a Gates Carbon belt drive. Instead of clicking through fixed gears, you twist the grip and glide steplessly across the whole range. Loaded and climbing, that means you're never caught between two wrong gears, and you can shift while stopped at a light – a small thing that becomes a big thing when you're starting from a standstill on a hill with a passenger.

The belt replaces the chain entirely. No lube and no chain grease on your pant leg. Between the sealed hub and the carbon belt, this is one of the lowest-maintenance drivetrains we sell — which, on a bike you're going to ride daily holds real value.

Tektro Volans hydraulic brakes with 180 mm rotors front and rear bring it all to a stop, and a Suntour coil fork with 80 mm of travel takes the edge rough roads.

Passenger Ready on Day One

Here's where the Breeze separates itself from most of the category. Every one comes with the protection bar, the footrest, two MIK seat cushions, a spoke guard, a MIK front rack, and the MIK-HD rear rack — included, at no extra cost.

Add a Thule Yepp 2 MIK-HD if you've got a little one – the minimum passenger age is about nine months, in a proper seat – and you're set.

The bike can handle 440 lb total vehicle weight, with 176 lb rated for the rear rack and another 33 lb up front. Maximum rider weight is 264 lb. That's a lot of family.

The Details You Notice Daily

The stuff that doesn't make headlines but decides whether you love the bike in year three: integrated lighting, a proper chainguard, the spoke guard so nothing finds its way into the rear wheel, and a rear rack with the MIK-HD mounting system so seats and bags click on and off without tools.

Urban Arrow has really nice accessories to extend the utility of your bike. We highly recommend the rear panniers and front rack bag for extra cargo capacity. You can also add a backrest to keep two older passengers comfortable on the rear.

Designed in Amsterdam, Assembled in Europe

Urban Arrow is an Amsterdam company, and it shows. They've been building cargo bikes since 2010, in a city where the cargo bike is simply how families move, and every generation of their bikes has been shaped by that daily reality. Assembly happens entirely in Europe — at the Amsterdam headquarters and at Pon.Bike's facility in Kėdainiai, Lithuania.

Who It's For

If you want a cargo bike but the front-loaders feel like too much bike, the Breeze is probably your answer. Same for anyone who'll be sharing the bike with a partner who's less confident on two wheels – the step-through frame and normal steering make handoffs easy.

The Breeze is unusually good value once you account for everything that's included. And if the idea of never touching a chain again appeals to you, the Enviolo-and-Gates combination is about as close to maintenance-free as an e-bike gets.

Ordering & Test Rides

The Urban Arrow Breeze can be ordered today. We expect demo bikes at all three shops by the end of August — San Francisco, Marin, and Oakland — and we'd love to put you on one. Reach out or book a test ride and we'll let you know the moment ours arrives.
